10:32 Kristy A Ah hello there Vivian! *Good to see ya*!
10:33 Vivian Steele And you, seems we miss each other all the time.
10:36 Kristy A I've been at Manton Bay with the 1 baby that Maya and Blue have and when the chat opens up I've been watching the red-tailed hawk babies over at cornell university! Thank you! And yourself Vivian?
10:36 Kristy A They only open that 1 up at select times, for a few hours.
10:38 Vivian Steele I have been watching Captiva but lots of aggression and I get frustrated, even though its normal and both chicks are doing great.
10:38 Vivian Steele And the albatross
10:39 Vivian Steele Waitin, and not patiently, for chicks here.
10:42 Kristy A *Right* Vivian. I really don't like seeing that. There's only 1 baby over at Manton Bay so I *love* that!

16:18 Zephyr Hiya Jewel, got a question for you about ospreys and skydancing.
16:42 jewel lang Hi Z.... I'm here now.... what's the question?
17:01 Kristy A Hello Zephyr!
17:23 jewel lang 17.22 Naha flies off and around.... back in and resumes brooding
17:58 Zephyr yes! Sorry, went to grab dinner. Okay, skydancing. I saw a male skydancing after retrieving a fish but he wasn't with another osprey.
17:58 Zephyr This was near my house. Is this a territorial display?
18:02 jewel lang Hi Z.... skydancing is a mating ritual, meant to impress the female. He usually has a fish in his talons, and the statement is "I am strong, I am viril, I can feed a family"
18:04 jewel lang He does this to either impress a particular female, or else to attract one. I don't think it has anything to do with territory..... Or a male who already has a mate might seek to further impress?
18:04 jewel lang That is what I think I know about the subject.... It is an amazing thing to see, and to hear!
18:06 jewel lang The song they sing when skydancing is different from any other vocalization.... very unique...
18:18 Kristy A Yeah.
18:36 jewel lang 18.35 After a lot of chatter, Bruce flies off to the northeast. One last fish? Stay tuned.... 😉

18:41 Zephyr You're right. I think he was defending his catch; I reviewed my really bad video lol
18:42 Kristy A lol!!!
18:42 jewel lang Defending his catch? I don't know what you mean....
18:43 jewel lang Was he being chased?
19:00 Zephyr Yes, sorry. He was chased by another bird (couldn't tell if it was an osprey), most likely trying to get the fish he caught.
19:17 Kristy A Aah.
19:20 jewel lang 19.18 Bruce brings his Naha a fabulous whole redtail surfperch, giant size..... She takes it away and he slips onto the eggs
19:21 jewel lang Oh, well that's probably not skydancing then, just an irate bird yelling his rage at his pursuer.... 😂
19:28 Kristy A Yeah I'm guessing so. Yay Naha!!
19:34 Kristy A Wow, Mum literally kicked Giliath outta the nest when he landed beside her when she was in it. Then he tried to land into the nest again and she acted aggressive to him and didn't want him to.
19:40 jewel lang 19.39 Naha flies back in after her late supper, fat and happy, chirping.... Bruce cedes the eggs to her and she settles.
19:43 jewel lang 19.41 Bruce flies off .... then back up to the cam post
20:37 Kristy A It must be 'cause Mum hasn't seen Giliath in a long time.
21:02 Kristy A Oh well. Okay I shall see ya tomorrow.
21:14 jewel lang Oh, well, fledged offspring are hardly ever welcome back in the nest they came from.... especially if it is approaching the new mating season.... That is why Katsuk was warned off again today....
21:16 jewel lang (I thought you were talking about Mum and Giliath before he left the nest for good....) So that just happened today then?
21:22 jewel lang A long day today, lots of fish and another glimpse of Katsuk (we think!).... Goodnight all, and sweet dreams Little Family... The little ones are beginning to stir in their shell...

A note from Kim Falconer, a local here at Seaside:  does anyone here know and see that osprey nest thats been in that dead snag tree forever on clatsop plains. its on the east side of the highway on the Tagg family property... viewable from the hwy.  The tree it was in fell this winter and with it the nest came down too. but there is a identical snag tree right next to it also viewable from the highway and I've been watching those osprey for several years as its on my way to work. and one of the osprey is back already....perched in the tree that was next to their old nesting tree. I'm hoping they will rebuild in that tree, LOVE those osprey.... It is a week earlier than the last 3 yrs. I've kept track of when they arrive and its usually around the 16th to the 18th and i saw one of them there this morning...hooray..poor thing is wondering where its home is...if your traveling to walmart from seaside its on the east side, right side of the hwy a little before the church that has the daffodil cross in a dead tree in a open field..  thats where the old nest was until the tree snapped but i saw a osprey in the one remaining tree that was next to it perched at the top so I'm hoping they will rebuild in that tree. love those OSPREY

8:30 am Just spoke to August, who reports having seen a couple ospreys at the estuary here in Seaside a week or so ago..... Time to pay attention!
